Which Blinds Are The Easiest To Maintain?

Blinds are one of the best treatments for windows and they can make a room feel warm, cozy, and comfortable. They also require regular maintenance and few blinds are easier to clean than the others. While considering blinds, we all know we want blinds that are the easiest to clean and ask ourselves which blinds are the easiest to maintain?

We have a list of blinds that are the easiest to maintain.

So, let us dive right in!

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are the easiest to clean and maintain.

If they are opened during the day and closed every evening, they don’t get a chance to gather dust anywhere except the tube at the top, which can be easily dusted with a feather duster.

Even if you leave the roller blinds unattended for a long time, open or closed, they don’t hold dust and dirt for long as they hang vertically.

But this doesn’t apply to roller blinds that are installed in bathrooms or kitchens.

The reason is that the moisture and humidity in the bathroom and kitchen collections the surface of the blinds. In the case of kitchens, the oil sticks to the blinds too, and thus, they attract all the dust in the air and stick to them. This makes the roller blinds look greasy.

Even if this happens in your bathroom and kitchen blinds, the brighter side is it’s still easier to clean. You just need to wipe the blinds with a damp cloth for the polyester ones and a much thorough cleaning for the PVC blinds.

Vertical Blinds

Like roller blinds, vertical blinds come in two different fabrics, polyester and PVC, and the latter are mostly installed in kitchens and bathrooms as they are waterproof.

Vertical blinds, either polyester, and PVC, both require just simply dusting the blinds or even using the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.

While the polyester vertical blinds can be spot cleaned, the PVC ones can be wiped down with a damp cloth and that’s all that needs to be done!

Zebra Blinds

Zebra blinds are a type of roller blind, but just a little fancier!

It consists of two layers of fabric arranged alternatively in sheer and solid stripes, just like the stripes you see in a zebra, and that’s where the name comes from. Yeah right!

Zebra blinds are made up of polyester and can just simply be dusted when it picks up a little dust.

Since the zebra blinds are made with two different fabrics, it requires a little more care than roller blinds, and hence, requires more attention than roller blinds.

Cellular Shades

Cellular blinds are highly thermal efficient due to their pleated or honeycomb construction. Air gets trapped inside the pleats which provide better insulation than other blinds.

The pleated fabric of the cellular shades is anti-static and doesn’t require attention as frequently as other blinds.

A duster or a brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner is enough to clean cellular shades and you’re good to go.

Aluminium Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are easy to clean but just time-consuming due to their huge number of slats.

Cleaning Venetian blinds just requires dusting, or wiping with a damp cloth and not so frequently. Dusting shall be enough for Venetian blinds to be done regularly.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood blinds are easier to clean but just like the Venetian blinds, they are time-consuming too, due to so many individual slats.

If the faux wood blinds are kept unattended for a long time, they hold dust because of run horizontally. However, this just requires dusting, wiping with a damp cloth, or using a sponge.

Faux wood blinds are waterproof and can be washed if needed too.

Wooden Blinds

Wooden blinds are types of Venetian blinds.

Wooden blinds are made from real wood and hence, are not waterproof and require proper handling and maintenance.

Wooden blinds left where it is for a long time will tend to collect dust, but like other blinds, it can be removed with a duster of the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.

However, if your wooden blinds get a bit grimy, you can wipe them down with a damp cloth but also avoid leaving water on the slat. You need to dry the slats after wiping the slats as well.

Roman Blinds

Since, roman blinds are made with soft, delicate fabric, it requires more maintenance compared to other blinds. It requires specialist dry cleaning as well.

Dusting these roller blinds regularly is a wise thing to do as the horizontal slats collect dust and reduce the chances of taking it for specialist dry cleaning.

Raising and lowering you're blind regularly can prevent them to collect dust too.
